Heron Resources has today announced that despite meeting all the technical hurdles encountered in the PFS, the PFS at Jump-up Dam has concluded that based on current configurations, the Heap-Leach process does not make an adequate return on investment. Trial mining at Jump-up Dam will continue as originally planned for mining studies and grade reconciliations.

Summary

An Indicated Mineral Resource of 22.3 Mt grading 1.01% nickel at a 0.70% nickel cut-off has been estimated for pre-feasibility study mine planning.

Key milestone reached, Indicated Mineral Resource permits the estimation of reserves to support 10,000tpa nickel production for the Jump-up Dam Project.

The estimate results are very pleasing with the total resource base (Indicated plus Inferred categories) of 52.8 Mt grading approximately 0.79% nickel at a 0.5% nickel cut-off. This represents an increase of 26% over January’s Inferred Mineral Resource.

Heron Resources is pleased to announce the commencement of a staged scoping and feasibility study into its 100%-owned Jump-up Dam Project, located 150km to the north east of Kalgoorlie-Boulder in Western Australia.

The study will look at economic production of nickel via development of a heap leaching operation. Construction of the initial trial leaching circuit could potentially start during 2007, with production of around 500 - 1,000tpa from a demonstration plant commencing during 2007-2008. Full commercial production is planned to commence in 2009 at a rate of 5,000tpa ramping up to 10,000tpa of nickel production in intermediate product during the 18 months following commencement of commercial leaching.

Heron Resources Limited (ASX: HRR) and Inco Limited (NYSE: N, TSE: N) have adopted an estimated US$2 million Program and Budget for Step 2 of the Kalgoorlie Nickel Project (KNP) Farm In and Joint Venture Agreement (FIJVA). The Budget and Program is for the first six months of Step 2 and includes just under US$1 million for drilling and US$0.68 million for metallurgical test work, beneficiation and assaying.

Heron Resources has received advice from Inco in respect of the Kalgoorlie Nickel Project (KNP) and its Farm-in and Joint Venture (FIAJV). Inco has completed Step 1 of the KNP, and having assessed the results, has decided it will continue onto Step 2 pursuant to the KNP FIAJV Agreement; and Inco and the Company will meet this week to finalise and adopt the Program and Budget for the first six months of Step 2.

Inco will continue to manage the FIAJV, and additionally will assume responsibility for the management and maintenance of all KNP tenements from the commencement of Step 2 through the following twelve months.

A book to improve understanding between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians was launched in the Goldfields yesterday.

Called "Yilpanha Tjapirnku Thukurrpa" (Goanna and lizard dreaming story) its tells why the Goanna and the lizard are no longer friends - in both English and Wangkatha.

Accompanying the book is a CD which reads the story to make pronounciation easier for school students.

Heron became involved after managing director Ian Buchhorn chose to print the story in the company's 2005 annual report.

Mr Buchhorn approached Rotary assistant district governor Esther Roadnight who helped get the book to print.

Since first seeking a partner for the KNP in October 2004, leading to the KNP farm-in and joint venture with Inco in July 2005, a majority of senior executive time is being spent in Perth, along with increasing interstate and overseas travel. Heron Resources Limited (ASX: HRR) (Heron) has signed a letter of intent to enter into a joint venture with Inco Limited (NYSE: N, TSE: N) (Inco) to develop its Kalgoorlie Nickel Project (KNP).

The terms of the letter of intent provide that, subject to the negotiation of the final documentation, Inco will fund the remainder of the cost of the KNP pre-feasibility study, 100% of the cost of any bankable feasibility study, procure all debt project financing required for the project and provide 95.5% of any equity funding required for the project.

Upon all milestones being met and the KNP being commissioned, Inco will earn a 60% interest in the project with Heron retaining a 40% interest. Inco will also be entitled to purchase 100% of the KNP off-take on commercial terms.

Heron Managing Director Ian Buchhorn said finding a suitable joint venture partner completed one of the major milestones for the project.

Heron is pleased to announce that it has received significant new upgrade results following initial in-fill drilling at the Goongarrie Hill Prospect. The drilling program comprised 3,133m of RC drilling covering 67 drill holes and was completed in October-November 2004.

Importantly the results provide confirmation for the July 2004 Kalgoorlie Nickel Project Scoping Study assumptions, together with supporting the previously announced Inferred Mineral Resource at Goongarrie Hill of 51 million tonnes at 0.67% Ni and 0.043% Co. These results represent another milestone in Heron’s strategy to fast track development of the KNP towards production.

Heron is continuing to aggressively pursue metallurgical test work and resource definition drilling as part of its KNP Pre-Feasibility Study.

Heron Resources, through its wholly owned subsidiary Regent Resources, has reached agreement with Mt Anketell Pty Ltd, whereby Mt Anketell can earn an initial 60% interest in the mineral rights of Regent's Bandicoot Range Project, comprising Exploration License 80/3367. Regent has a 100% interest in the Tenement.

The Bandicoot Range Project area is located in the Eastern Kimberley area, some 5 km west of Kununurra. It covers some 150 square kilometers of dominantly Proterozoic sediments and dolerites and contains a number of highly prospective iron-ore and base-metal occurrences which will be the focus of exploration by Mt Anketell.

The results confirm the assumptions used by Sinclair Knight Mertz in the July 2004 Kalgoorlie Nickel Project Scoping Study. These Leach Feed Grade screen upgrade results represent another significant milestone in advancing the Kalgoorlie Nickel Project towards production.

Heron's Kalgoorlie Nickel Project is the world's 2nd largest contained nickel resource, and the Company is continuing with its Feasibility Study schedule.

Heron Resources has determined to aggressively fast-track development plans for the Kalgoorlie Nickel Project (KNP) following the release today of an order of magnitude Scoping Study, which has indicated the project is financially attractive.

Heron Managing Director, Ian Buchhorn, said the Scoping Study, prepared by independent engineers Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM), indicated that the project has the potential to deliver a geared, post tax NPV of approximately A$607 million at a 10% discount rate, and at a conservative nickel price of US$3.50 per pound. Nickel prices currently are around US$7.00 per pound.

Heron Resources Limited has commenced detailed planning for a new 50,000 tonnes per annum laterite nickel operation at its Kalgoorlie Nickel Project, following the release today of new resource estimates prepared by Snowden Mining Industry Consultants.

With a total Mineral Resource of 862 million tonnes grading 0.74% nickel and 0.05% cobalt, Heron’s total inventory ranks as being one of the largest laterite nickel resources in the world. At the estimated tonnage and grade, the Kalgoorlie Nickel Project contains 6.4 million tonnes of nickel metal.

Heron Resources has entered into a heads of agreement for the purchase of mineral rights for mining tenements in the Bulong Project which are beneficially owned by Bulong Operations Pty Ltd (Receivers and Managers Appointed) (In Liquidation) and Bulong Nickel Pty Ltd (Receivers and Managers Appointed) (In Liquidation).

The agreement does not include the acquisition of the plant and infrastructure assets of the Bulong Project, but does require negotiation in good faith to provide Heron with access to the plant and infrastructure tenements for the purposes of exploration, mining and development.

Heron Resources Limited has reached agreement with Scimitar Resources Limited for the sale of Heron's Mt Elvire Project and non-iron ore rights at Heron's 100%-owned Bungalbin Project. The sale is subject to the execution of a formal Sale and Purchase Agreement.

The sale by Heron of its non-nickel laterite projects such as Mt Elvire and Bungalbin is maintaining the Company policy of divestment of non-core projects to focus on the development of its world class Kalgoorlie Nickel Project.

Heron Resources notes the 2 March 2004 announcement by Image Resources of "High Grade Nickel Sulphides intersected at the Emu Lake Project", at the Gossan Zone locality.

Heron has a significant ground holding within its Kalpini Nickel Project immediately surrounding Image's Gossan Zone. Aeromagnetics demonstrate the magnetic ultramafic package of rocks within Image’s tenements continue northwest and southeast along strike into Heron’s tenement holding.

Heron Resources has commenced the de-merger of its wholly owned subsidiary Regent Resources Limited to enable the "spinning off" of its base metal and gold assets.

Heron was approached by an experienced and successful Eastern Goldfields explorationist with the view to further develop the company. This person is now the Managing Director-designate of Regent.

Regent will continue to acquire, explore for and develop base metal and gold resources within Western Australia. Regent will also target advanced stage mineral acquisition opportunities that are capable of producing a cash flow.

The Heron projects proposed for transfer to Regent are associated with significant historical gold mining centres, controlled by substantial regional metallogenic structures, including:

* Bardoc Tectonic Zone, which hosts several of Western Australia’s most significant gold deposits;
* Yindarlgooda Dome and related GMQ Shear Zone-Emu Fault, which is a bimodal volcanic rift setting; and
* Mount Dimer/Bungalbin Greenstone Belt.

Jinchuan Group Limited is continuing to conduct Nickel Laterite test work at its metallurgical facility on ore samples collected in November 2002 from the North Kalgoorlie Nickel Project (“NKN Project”).

Jinchuan and Heron intend having preliminary meetings in the Peoples Republic of China during February 2003, to further discuss the NKN Project.
